This release gives information on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the four states – Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap. Appendix 1 contains tables with detailed data for FSM and the four states.
Annual Inflation
The annual inflation rate for the 4th quarter of 2024 was 3.6%. When compared to the same quarter of the previous year (2023), a decline of 1.1 percentage points can be seen. (Figure 1).
The largest contribution to the annual inflation for 4th quarter of 2024 came from the Food and non-alcoholic beverage division, which increased in prices by 3.9% (Figure 3).
For this quarter, Chuuk recorded the highest inflation rate of 6.2 % with Pohnpei at 3.3%, Yap at 1.9% and Kosrae with the lowest at 0.2% (Figure 2).
The high inflation rate in Chuuk was driven by the increasing prices in the Housing, water, electricity and gas division which was recorded at 21.0%.
